Doubting the Future

Oh what a wicked thing it is -- to doubt the One who loves you most, and does everything for you. Yes, I am doubting my Precious Lord's word to me, and it is causing all sorts of upset emotions, feelings of being downcast, and a sense of dread.

I don't know why I am doubting Him at all. He has been so faithful to me, and I have clearly understood His word to me. The problem is that I have been hearing other voices (like the Casting Crowns song -- The Voice of Truth), and now I am confused. It is so hard to listen to the Voice of Truth when other voices are telling you to do things that SEEM ok, that SEEM to be right.

Oh, what I would do to have
the kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown
Where Jesus is,
And he's holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name
and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
time and time again
"Boy, you'll never win,
You you'll never win

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the Voice of truth says "this is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

Oh, what I would do
to have the kind of strength it takes
To stand before a giant
with just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound
of a thousand warriors
shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
time and time again
"Boy you'll never win,
you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the Voice of truth says "this is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

But the stone was just the right size
to put the giant on the ground
and the waves they don't seem so high
from on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
singing over me

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
The Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me (calling out to me)
I will choose to listen and believe (I will choose to listen and believe)
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the Voice of truth
I will listen and believe
'Cause Jesus you are the Voice of truth
And I will listen to you.. oh you are the Voice of truth

Yes, this is the truth of my life right now. The Lord is calling me to step out in faith and I am listening to those other voices that are reminding me of my past failures, my incompetencies, and my many poor choices. These voices are trying to keep me from doing what God wants me to do in my life, they are trying to keep me in this place, in this spot, in this way -- so that I do not move on with the plans that He has for me.

I have a choice this morning, and that choice is to get out of the boat (like Peter) and walk through the crashing waves to the Lord who is waiting on the shore for me. I trust Him, I believe His Word to me, and I know Him -- He is TRUTH. Therefore, do I shirk back in fear or do I walk on? Yes, I walk on--I walk on to where the Lord is leading, and I trust that He will always guide me and that He will never leave me alone. He is God alone, and He is responsible for every aspect of my life. I can do nothing without Him, and I can do nothing for Him. It is all for Him, and He is my entire sufficiency.

I have made my choice. I will get out of the boat and walk to where He is leading. I will not listen to the voices that are trying to tell me to do something else. I will focus on what He has told me to do, and I will wait for Him to lift me up. God is Faithful, and He is always Good to me.
